I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of illustration projects including graphic novels, children’s books and independently commissioned portraits. The gallery below features a selection of these works.
Through the inspirational stories of 50 famous and under-celebrated women from Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka, this book gives South Asian girls a chance to dream about lives for themselves that radically differ from the limited narratives and stereotypes written for them by their culture, wider society and the mainstream media. I was excited to be amongst a group of 10 artists selected to illustrate this book. This book is available to order from many outlets online including here and here.
This upcoming novel is a Dutch rendition of the popular book titled, “Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls”. A copy can be pre-ordered here.
“Scoren!” is a children’s book dedicated to Dutch sports heroes and their impressive accomplishments that I illustrated. It can be pre-ordered here.
Commissioned by Casella, “Augustinus” is a graphic novel I illustrated and wrote based on St. Augustine’s autobiographical work titled “Confessions”. I was responsible for not only the substansive research this required, but also the design and layout considerations of depicting such an intricate story in only 34 pages. This graphic novel was awarded the 2020 Gabriël Prize for the best religious comic book.
This project was part of my thesis project in art school. It was an interactive design for an app depicting what the bombardment of Rotterdam in 1940 WWII was like specifically from the perspective of a young boy and his love of the zoo. A full demo of the piece can viewed here.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many children in Colombia (as in other parts of the world) are not able to attend school. This children’s book was commissioned in response by the Dutch embassy in Colombia to provide a lighthearted read. Written by, Pim Lammers, I illustrated this book.
